Location

Sunshine Coast is a stretch of paradise tucked into the southwest corner of mainland British Columbia accessible only by ferry, boat, or plane, adding to the place’s laid-back retro charm and island state of mind. The area is known for its mild weather and forested mountains.

The District of Sechelt is a grouping of several communities along the lower Sunshine Coast. The name of the area is derived from the Sechelt language word, shíshálh, the name of the First Nations people who initially settled the area thousands of years ago. The area is known for a wide variety of wildlife, including the Sechelt Marsh. Davis Bay and the Porpoise Bay Provincial Park are great locations for swimming, or relaxing on long sandy beaches, however you can discover secluded beaches and trails all around to enjoy nature. The area is absolutely great for hiking, sailing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling and bird watching. And it is very rich in the history of the Shishalh First Nations, their totem pole artwork can be seen on display in the area.

Sechelt Village is a laid back coastal town, the land between two waters. Home to restaurants and cafes, as well as a brewery, a cidery, a lavender farm and a mountain bike park among many other places to visit.

Bella Vista is located in Sandy Hook, one of the local communities surrounded by water and forest. You will be 2 min drive from amazing hikes and beaches. We are 10 min drive from Sechelt Village where you can find all the amenities you might need with nice restaurants, cafes, markets, liquor store, hospital and much more. Our house is 5 minutes from Porpoise Provincial Park and 15 min drive to the Coastal Gravity Park.

Wildlife

Wildlife is a big part of our neighbourhood. Be prepared to see deers and fawns, a family of raccoons, bald eagles and many other amazing birds. Not very uncommon to see dolphins, porpoises and orca whales at the close by beaches. You may also spot a bobcat or cougar (not very common but possible) and bears, sometimes lots of them including mama and cubs. Be bear aware!!!

Related to the topic you will find specific garbage instructions at the house to protect the local wildlife.

Thank you for caring about our wildlife.
It’s guests like you that help keep our wildlife safe and diverse.
